About John

I love to walk outdoors, walking outside connects me with something bigger, something beyond me.

One time I was walking with some friends through the desert in Palestine - a once in a lifetime experience - and we came across this amazing waterfall that looked liked it was literally coming out of the rocks!  (Pictured above.) We needed that En Gedi watering area! I have found that counseling and consulting are like that life-giving water, whether it has been moving to various states for work, divorce, family trauma, substance misuse, anxiety, depression, spiritual searching, earning degrees as an older adult with a family, changing careers, or my other journeys, I've needed someone beyond me.

With the work I have been able to do over the past 40+ years with countless individuals and organizations, I'm confident you can experience refreshing times ahead like water coming out of desert rocks, even if it involves doing the hard work of making changes.

As a psychotherapist with training and experience using a variety of methods, including Ecotherapy, EMDR and Trauma-Based Modalities, Transactional Analysis, Redecision Therapy, Personality-Focused Treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy,  Moral Injury, Gottman Level One and PREP Couple Therapy, and more, I am convinced that love is the foundation of a sense of safety, belonging, and reconnection with ourselves and the world around us. These are at the core of becoming a whole, healthy person, engaged in caring for ourself, others, and all nature.

As a leader, consultant, and professional coach, with leaders, teams, military, faith-based organizations, businesses, and universities, I have seen how we can thrive as models of healthy systems. From my leadership time in business, the U.S. Army, non-profits, education, and counseling,  I believe we can impact the world for generations.

As a University administrator and business professional I have understood that mentoring and coaching others isn't a 9-5 job.  The greatest impact we have in life can be found in modeling service to others so they develop to be productive, healthy contributors to society. I found this especially true having had the privilege to help create a new campus ethos, policies, and practices post-merge with another University. I am confident I can help you in your situation.

And as clergy, I have experienced healing and love, as well as hardship and hurt in faith communities. If you have experienced deep pain or religious trauma by such a faith community,  I believe we can search together to find the answers you're looking for, to get a vision for what is beyond us, and to help heal and grow mentally, emotionally, relationally, environmentally, and even spiritually. I want that for you.

Remember: You don't have to walk through life alone. Someone is willing to walk with you!

I acknowledge my current practice is located in the Huron River watershed, which was formed and has grown through connections with the land stewarded by Niswi Ishkodewan Anishinaabeg: The Three Fires People who are the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Boodewadomi along with their neighbors the Seneca, Delaware, Shawnee, and Wyandot nations. Today we benefit from access to land and resources originally acquired through the Treaty at the Foot of the Rapids.
